Love the Terrible and the Painful

“Loving only the good in God and nature—even a child does that. You should love the terrible and the painful as well. A father loves the child, even when he is giving him trouble.”

— Swami Vivekananda

You slogged your butt off, but the results were nowhere close to what you hoped for. You got blamed for a mishap that was not your fault. Life bombarded you with setbacks that you didn’t deserve. The people whom you hoped would remain by your side forever left.

No doubt it sucks. But it’s a law of nature which happens for a reason – to strengthen your character, and to guide you towards knowledge and freedom.

It’s useless to fight the laws of nature; it’s better to accept them. Acceptance makes you stop digging the hole that you’ve found yourself in. Then you can do what’s needed to get out of it. Acceptance is the path to peace and progress.

Don’t hate the downs. Without them, how would you value the ups?
