“Let your love go to all, whatever they do to you. A blind man cannot see color, so how can we see evil unless it is in us?”
— Swami Vivekananda
The most beautiful emotion we can experience is love. It can inspire us to do incredible things. In fact, medieval theology believed that love was what set the universe in motion.
Then why does the emotion feel so scarce today? Because we want to get it rather than give it. And because we shut ourselves so as to avoid getting hurt rather than opening up to the beauty of love. And because we’re too busy judging people to accept them.
Love comes from acceptance. A simple way to practice acceptance is to look for similarities between them and you. Like you, they have two eyes and one mouth; they have similar fears, insecurities, and dreams.
Then, you’ll be able to decode the reasons behind their actions and accept them for who they are. Such understanding also gives you distance from situations, making you more objective in life.
So you see? When you love others, you’re not just uplifting them, but yourself as well. You’re also contributing to a kinder, inclusive world. Love can truly make the world go round.
