Assuming Versus Discovering

“Believe nothing unless you find it out for yourself… Truth requires no prop to make it stand.”

— Swami Vivekananda

What is education? Is it about taking pride in how we judge people? Or about assuming that what we know is all there is, to the extent that we disguise staunch opinions and beliefs poorly as questions just to check whether the other knows as much as us, or to put them on the spot?

No.

Education offers tools to enhance your knowledge and consciousness. It helps you decode things, understand the other person’s perspective, connect the dots, and discover something amazing. In effect, education gives you a direction.

The next time a question arises in your mind, ask yourself: What is its aim? Is it to prove that I’m better than someone? Or is it to enhance my mindset? This is being educated in the true sense.

Open your mind. Absorb. A person with only answers and no questions learns nothing and goes nowhere. We’re all hungry for better answers. But to make room for them, we must start asking better questions.
