“When you realize there is no such thing as comfort, no such thing as security, either in possession of things or of ideas, then you will face life as it is, not with the background of intense longing for comfort.”
— J. Krishnamurti
“A ship is always safe at shore, but that’s not what it’s built for.” The ship that’s always standing at the dock corrodes and degrades, develops mechanical faults, and is eventually discarded. Something similar happens to humans who seek only comfort and security.
Change cannot be stopped. Even you are not the same person you were five years ago, no matter how mundane your routine was. Instead of resisting change, embrace it; actively seek it by doing tiny things that push you outside your comfort zone.
Visit a new dine-out. Explore a new path with the GPS turned off. Read a book outside your genre of interest. Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in six months. Learn a new word. There’s so much you can do to get outside your comfort zone without feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
Dare to sail into uncharted territory, otherwise you’ll never discover what you are capable of, and your dreams will lie like a broken toy forgotten by a child. You are not here to stagnate, to be bound or fettered. You are here to live intelligently, to discover and fulfill your purpose.
Don’t be the person who gets in your own way.
