“Everything is conscious which rebels against nature: there, consciousness is manifested. Just try to kill a little ant, even it will once resist to save its life.”
— Swami Vivekananda
It’s become our nature to get distracted by notifications.
When we are working on a task that requires focus — reviewing data, researching a project, or reading a report — we rush into the arms of instant gratification as soon as we feel slightly stressed. We check notifications, respond to non-important and non-urgent messages, and scroll endlessly through social media.
Going with the flow is not prescribed when it’s harmful for you. What’s prescribed is rebelling against such nature to safeguard yourself, like the ant that’s about to be trampled upon will.
While working on a task that stretches you, keep your phone out of sight. When you feel tempted to give into distraction, focus for just five more minutes. And each day, see at least one important task through to a meaningful end.
Train yourself to become conscious, because in consciousness lies growth.
