The Underrated Trait That Makes Life Enjoyable

“How do we know that the mind has become concentrated? Because the idea of time will vanish. The more time passes unnoticed, the more concentrated we are.”

– Swami Vivekananda

Open Instagram and before you know it, an hour has gone by. Watch one episode on Netflix and before you know it, you’ve watched four.

This is the magic of immersion. It makes time dissolve and, at that moment, makes life enjoyable. The problem is most of us immerse ourselves in the wrong activities — the ones that keep us occupied rather than engaged. They do nothing to reduce our loneliness. Instead, we keep craving more of them until they become addictions.

It’s better to immerse yourself in activities that uplift you. When you exercise, concentrate on your form. When you work, focus on the task. When you spend time with loved ones, give them your undivided attention. And if you feel distracted, bring yourself back non-judgmentally to the present moment.

You’ll become fitter, grow in your career, and feel happier in your relationships. You’ll also develop the self-belief to pursue and achieve whatever you set your mind on.
